Build Repeat Customers!

by Jeff Lee

Your web site may be getting a lot of hits, but few sales. How come? It's simple really.

Studies show that on average a potential customer must see your advertisement 7 times before they buy from you. What does this mean? You have to build up repeat customers!

Web surfers can come across your site, browse through it, and pass on to the next site without ever looking back. Even if a web surfer finds your site useful, they often will not return because they either forget the URL, or the site gets bookmarked and forgotten about.

Don't lose these valuable potential customers! Stay in touch. Remind them about your site. Sending out a simple follow up email can greatly increase your return visitors and your sales!

One great way to stay in touch is to offer your own email newsletter. But maybe you're thinking, I don't have anything to say to these people. Sure you do!

If your visitors sign up for a newsletter, that means that they have found your site useful and are interested in hearing what you have to say. Your newsletter can be very basic. Simply send out a bi-weekly email containing site updates or special bargains on products which you offer. If you want to do a little more work, you can offer informative articles on topics relevant to your site. For example, if you run a web site that sells pet products, you could write an article on grooming dogs.

If you don't want to write articles, you can find free pre-written articles available for publishing. Authors are often happy to have their article published in exchange for you printing their name and URL. For a list of free content directories check out: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~jefflee/promotion/freecontent.html It's very easy to run an email newsletter. You can start one at a free mailing list server such as www.listbot.com. You simply provide the content, and the server will handle subscribing/unsubscribing, and sending out the newsletter. In return for this free service, these companies usually attach a short advertisement to the end of your message.

In order to get subscribers to your newsletter, the free list server will provide you with a piece of HTML code to paste in the source code of your site. On your web site, this will appear as a box asking your customer to input their email address to join the mailing list.

Remember! The basic idea of your newsletter is simply to remind your customers that you and your site still exist. If they liked your site the first time around (and they probably did, since they signed up for the newsletter) they are likely to visit again if you remind them!

Start your own newsletter today and build up those repeat customers!
