Get Paid to Surf?

by Jeff Lee

With the success of Alladvantage, there has been a huge blitz of copycat "get paid to surf" programs. For those of you who don't know what Alladvantage is, or what "get paid to surf" is, I'll explain. "Get Paid to Surf" is a new marketing tactic in which, you, the consumer, agree to place a viewbar on your computer that displays a rotation of banner ads. In return for doing this, the marketing company will share a portion of the revenues with you. The viewbar usually goes on the bottom of the screen, and takes up about the same amount of space as a normal banner ad. These programs are completely free to join and basically are giving you free money to view ads. So far a handful of these companies have started their programs and are sending out checks, with Alladvantage enjoying the most success. Other programs that are currently active, are Gotoworld and Spedia.

With so many programs coming out now, two important questions you may have are: whether you should join one of these programs and if so, which one to join. The answer to whether or not you should join a "get paid to surf" program is, it depends. The first and most important thing that you give up when you take part in one of these programs is space on your monitor. If you have a relatively small monitor, then the viewbar might become annoying. Increasing the screen resolution would help, by allowing you to fit more on your screen, but it also makes everything smaller. If you have a larger monitor, 17 inches or bigger, the size of the viewbar won't be as much of a problem.

Most programs pay around $.50/hour, which may not seem like much, but if you spend about an hour a day on the internet, this comes out to $15/month, which isn't too bad for doing next to nothing. The easiest way to make money with these programs though, is through the referral system. These programs will pay you between $.03 and $.10 for each hour that someone you refer is online. In addition, they will pay you for the people that your referals refer, and the people that those referrals refer, and so on, out to 5 levels. This makes these programs great money making opportunities if you know some people that you can refer.

If you've made up your mind to join a "get paid to surf" program, then you need to decide which program(s) to join? This question is much easier to answer. If you are only going to join one program, Alladvantage is the one to join. Their viewbar is currently available for immediate download for new members, unlike many of the other programs and Alladvantage has been sending out checks to members for the last three months, with many members receiving checks in excess of several hundred dollars. Spedia and Gotoworld are the next best programs as they also have their viewbars available for immediate download and are sending out checks. Compared to Alladvantage though, Spedia's referral system has less levels and Gotoworld has a lower pay rate. These programs aren't useless though, because it's possible to join and use several programs at the same time, in order to make more money. I have successfully used the Spedia, Gotoworld, and Alladvantage viewbars concurrently.

All of the programs from the latest barrage of new companies wanting to pay you to surf cannot stay in business. With increased competition the market will definitely thin to a few strong companies. Luckily for you, the consumer, the programs that currently are available are the ones likely to prevail, as a fast start means everything in the internet world.
